A freight train derailed on Montreal's South Shore Thursday morning, sending a cloud of white smoke drifting toward a residential area.

Emergency services are at the scene of a train derailment Thursday morning on Montreal's south shore, where they are urging citizens to stay away from the area.

A train derailment forced the complete closure of Route 116 in Longueuil Thursday morning and the stopping of all train traffic on the Victoria Bridge as emergency personnel analyzed a spill of hydrogen peroxide.

A train derailed at the Lemoyne marshalling yard on Thursday before 9 a.m. in Longueuil. According Longueuil police (SPAL), there were no injuries and no other vehicles were involved in the accident. SPAL officers responded to the scene with the Service de sécurité incendie de Longueuil and Canadian National (CN).

The City of Longueuil issued an update on its website around 4:30 a.m. Friday to let residents know the lockdown was no longer in effect.
