Huw Edwards spared jail
Disgraced BBC presenter Huw Edwards spared jail for making indecent images of children
Donald Trump has spoken for the first time since the latest assassination attempt on his life, speaking on X about how he was rushed to safety by Secret Service agents after a series of shots. Our US correspondent Lauren Tomasi is outside the former president's Mar A Lago resort and joins us live. Lauren, talk us through more of what he's had to say. Yeah, Good morning to you, Davina. This was an audio only interview that the former president took part in, as you say on the social media platform X. He did that from the safety and comfort of his Mar A Lager resort here in Florida. It's just across the bridge. You can still see the police vehicles which have been lining in the streets in the wake of this second assassination attempt. Now, Donald Trump went into quite a bit of detail as to how his day unfolded yesterday, saying he was out on the golf course with a friend and a donor and they were on that 5th and 6th hole of the of course when those shots rang out. Donald Trump really paying tribute and thanking the Secret Service officers who were so quick on the scene to act two months on from that first assassination attempt we saw. And also very much praising a witness who took a photograph of that suspected gunsman's car as he attempted to flee. But when it comes to that moment that those shots rang out, here is what Donald Trump had to say. So I was playing golf with some of my friends who was on a Sunday. Good morning and very peaceful, very beautiful weather. Everything was beautiful. It was nice place to be. And all of a sudden we heard shots being fired in the air and I guess probably four or five. And it sounded like bullets, but what do I know about that? But Secret Service knew immediately it was bullets. And they grabbed me and I would have loved to have sank that last putt, but we decided let's get out of here. Donald Trump still able to have a bit of a joke there about putting on the golf course. But when it comes to the secret services point of view, learning new details from the acting director there, he says that Donald Trump never came within line of sight of this suspected shooter. Ryan Ralph and Ralph himself never fired off any shots. Those four to six shots that were heard all came from that Secret Service agent. Today, that suspected shooter was in court for the first time, a federal court here in Florida where he's been charged with two federal gun crimes, neither relating directly to Donald Trump, but we are expecting more charges to come down. Now, As for the current president, Joe Biden, he has reached out to Donald Trump. The pair having a phone call a little earlier today. The White House says it was a very cordial call and Donald Trump was very thankful for that. As security is ramped up here at Mar a Lago. But publicly, Donald Trump is saying it is the vice president and the president and their rhetoric that is the reason he has had shots fired at him once again. Donald Trump is due back on the campaign trail tomorrow in Michigan. You can expect big security there, Davina, in the wake of this second attempt on his life. Absolutely. Lauren Tomasi live in Florida. Thank you.
