Tornadoes with three second gusts of between 111 miles per hour and 135 miles per hour could hit the southeastern U.S. over the weekend.

Seventeen million people across the South are under the threat of damaging winds, strong tornadoes and hail Saturday as the region braces for more potential destructive storms.

The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down in Brazoria County on Saturday. A line of severe thunderstorms moved across the Houston area, bringing heavy rain, lightning, thunder and tornado warnings. The media could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported.

We’re watching a severe weather threat for the afternoon/evening hours on Saturday, lasting into the overnight and early Sunday as the storms track east and weaken with time. All modes of severe weather are possible with the greatest threat across western Alabama.

The National Weather Service continues to monitor the threat for strong to severe storms in Alabama today, Saturday and Sunday. Isolated severe storms will be possible today and Sunday, but Saturday will feature the highest risk for storms the state has seen in a while.
