According to emergency medical services, the victim was hit on the I-10/I-12 split near Essen Lane around 4 a.m. The East Baton Rouge Coroner's Office was called to the scene.

Someone was shot and injured in a Baton Rouge coffeeshop Thursday morning, Baton Rouge police said. The shooting happened at about 6:30 a.m. at the Coffee Bean Cafe at 12177 Coursey Blvd., near South Sherwood Forest Boulevard, officials said. The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition, emergency officials said.

Sakyron Taylor, 23, was charged with second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. The Baton Rouge Police Department was called around 5:30 p.m. to the Uncle Moe’s Food Mart in the 5500 block of Plank Road.
